In order to make sure that your WebQuest stays aligned with your unit, you will need to copy and paste 3 things from your Stages 1 and 2 from Dr. Grace's wiki onto this page. (This will also help Dr. Theresa give you better feedback on your Intro, Task, and Conclusion.) Then you will write your first drafts of your Introduction and Conclusion.

Understanding(s)
Students will understand there were events leading to the Depression, that there were short term effects of the Depression that impacted the lives of citizens, and that there were, and are, long term effects that are still seen today. The questions they will ask themselves are: Why did the depression occur when it did? How did the depression initially affect America and the world? How lasting was the impact of the Depression?
Introduction
Imagine going home tonight to a house that is no longer yours. Your parents lost their entire bank account in trying to pay off the stock broker. The bank then called up the loan they had to take out on your house. Since your parents had no money to pay them, your house was foreclosed on. Your situation was not dissimilar to others in your neighborhood. The question is where will you all live. What will you eat? How will you survive? Politicians were the ones who could make decisions to help you and your neighbors but they were scrambling just like everyone else.
It will become imperative to listen to radio broadcasts and read newspapers to keep up on the newest information. If you were a journalist how would you present this breaking news to listeners and readers?
Task
You have been transported back to 1929 just as the causes of the Great Depression began. During this time travel you have become a politician, an artist, or a member of the all-American McGillycuddy family. The McGillycuddy family was chosen by NBC to host a radio talk show “The McGillycuddy Minutes” in order to give American citizens a relatable view into the depression. On the show family members, politicians, and artists get together to discuss critical events during the depression. These discussions lead to both debates and agreements between the family members and their guests. You will form a broadcasting team composed of at least one each: family member, politician, artist, or prominent figure (actor, public figure, world leader) and choose an event or topic of the depression to discuss. You and your team will create a broadcast, to the American people, in which you convey the context for your event, the event itself, and the differing viewpoint on the subject while incorporating critical pieces of a traditional radio broadcast.
Conclusion
Radio connected Americans to the entirety of the nation in a time when these bonds became critical to the emotional health of all citizens. There were so many things going wrong in their lives and radio was the easiest way to give everyone a connection to each other. The radio broadcast you have developed will connect the American people to each other during this difficult time. As you are transported back into the present, think about how much communication has changed. Today we receive news through all sorts of mediums: Television, the internet, newspapers, and even the radio. More importantly think of how connections among the citizens of the world have changed. We are no longer just listening the the same broadcasts, we can now communicate about what news we hear through social media. The technology has changed but the reason behind it remains the same: we all want to be connected.
